Raleigh St. Augustine

How to Take Care of My New SOD

Water Immediately
Ensure the entire lawn is soaked (about 1 inch deep)
Avoid pooling water
Water daily (first 2 weeks)
Keep sod and soil consistently moist, not soggy

Week 3: Water once per day
Week 4: Water every other day
Week 5: Switch to normal watering schedule

Stay off new sod for the first 2-3 weeks to let roots establish
Keep kids and pets off grass until grass is well rooted

Around 10-14 days after installation
Mow when grass reaches 3-4 inches tall
Make sure the grass is firm and the sod won’t pull up

Fertilize after 3-4 weeks
Use a balanced, slow release starter fertilizer
Avoid over fertilizing
Re-fertilize every 6-8 weeks during growing season

Avoid herbicides for at least 4-6 weeks
Pull weeds by hand until sod is fully established
Watch for signs of grubs, fungus or overwatering
